GAMES MEN PLAY
(1964) Bizarre Argentinean production, dubbed in English; several couples are quarantined to a seedy hotel for possibly having the bubonic plague; to pass the time, the couples play strange sex games with each other; plays like an oversexed episode of the Twilight Zone; starring Maria Antinea, Amelia Bence, Elsa Daniel, Mirtha Legrand, Narciso Ibanez Menta; directed by Daniel Tinayre; original Spanish title LA CIGARRA NO ES UN BICHO (The Cicada is not a Small Animal/Insect); in black & white; {print quality A-}
Yow! What a great obscurity this is! With a plot that sounds like a bad joke (seven couples are quarantined in a seedy hotel for possibly carrying the bubonic plague!), this wild and steamy dubbed melodrama has the premise of THE PETRIFIED FOREST, with claustrophobia and and hatred and fear creating unbearable sexual/political tension, combined with a parody of GRAND HOTEL! Surely one of the oddest of "Adults Only" flicks of the 60s, this has comedy, pathos and sex in equal measure, definitely a WOW!
